From discovery to advancement: inside the IFI Workforce System

January 9, 20255 min readIFI Editorial Team

A closer look at the workforce development ecosystem IFI is building, connecting individuals, training providers, employers, and community organizations.

The IFI Workforce System is not a job board or a staffing agency. It is a workforce development ecosystem designed to help people move from discovery to advancement, connecting individuals, training, internships, employers, and career opportunities through a structured, human centered pathway.

The long term vision is a ten stage pathway: Discover, Assess, Train, Certify, Intern, Match, Place, Retain, Advance, and Measure. Each stage represents a step in a person's journey toward sustainable employment and career growth. In Phase 1, these stages are informational, they communicate IFI's vision and help visitors understand how the pieces fit together. Over time, IFI plans to build the technology and partnerships needed to support each stage with real tools and services.

Central to the ecosystem is the idea of connection. IFI does not seek to replace existing workforce organizations, training providers, or employers. Instead, it aims to connect them, bringing together community organizations, educational institutions, nonprofits, government agencies, and businesses to create a coordinated network of opportunity. Individuals benefit from a clearer pathway. Partners benefit from access to prepared, motivated talent. Communities benefit from stronger local economies.

The Job Replacement Internship Program is one early initiative within the Workforce System. It supports individuals experiencing employment disruption by helping them identify transferable skills, receive additional training where needed, gain current experience through internships or transitional opportunities, and rebuild professional confidence. The focus is on experience, confidence, opportunity, and ultimately sustainable employment.

For individuals, the first step is simple: join the talent network. For employers, the invitation is to become a partner. For organizations, the opportunity is to collaborate on workforce programs. Together, these connections form the foundation of a workforce development ecosystem built for the future.
